The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame is a museum dedicated to the history and accomplishments of athletes from Colorado. The museum was founded in 1958 by John F. “Jack” Swallow, who was also the founder of the Denver Broncos football team.

Colorado Sports Hall of Fame: Inductees for 2022
The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame has announced the inductees for its Class of 2022, and it is a star-studded group.
Headlining the class are two of the most successful athletes in Colorado history, Peyton Manning and Todd Helton. Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, winning five NFL MVP awards and two Super Bowls during his illustrious career with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. Helton was a mainstay in the middle of the Rockies’ lineup for 17 years, hitting .316/.414/.539 with 2,519 hits while playing his entire career at Coors Field.
Also inducted will be Larry Walker, another former Rockie who had a stellar career in both Canada and Colorado. Walker hit .313/.400/.565 with 383 home runs over 17 seasons, winning three batting titles and an MVP award with the Rockies in 1997. He joins fellow Canadian Fergie Jenkins as just the second player born north of the border to be inducted into the Hall.
Rounding out the class are two women who have been instrumental in growing girls’ and women’s sports in Colorado. Linda Borenstein was a pioneer in girls’ soccer, starting programs at Denver East High School and Regis University that led to state championships and NCAA Division I success respectively. Dawna Callahan was a driving force behind creating opportunities for female athletes at Air Academy High School, where she coached numerous teams to state titles before becoming Principal Athletic Director for District 20.
This year’s class will be formally inducted at a ceremony on October 1st at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Colorado Sports Hall of Fame: The Selection Committee
The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the 2022 inductees. The selection committee, made up of past inductees and sports media members from around the state, has chosen an impressive group of athletes and coaches who have made significant contributions to Colorado sports.
This year’s class includes former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, who led the team to two Super Bowl victories; Larry Walker, a five-time Major League Baseball All-Star and three-time National League batting champion; Dikembe Mutombo, one of the greatest shot blockers in NBA history; Billie Jean King, one of the most important figures in the history of women’s tennis; and Rick Majerus, one of college basketball’s most respected coaches.
These five individuals will be honored at the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony on May 7th, 2022 at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Tickets for the event will go on sale at a later date.

The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1957 and is located in Denver, Colorado. The Hall of Fame honors athletes, coaches, and others who have made significant contributions to sports in Colorado.
The Selection Committee is responsible for selecting the inductees each year. The Committee is composed of media members, sportswriters, sports executives, and former athletes.
The induction ceremony is held each year in Denver. Inductees are honored with a bronze plaque that is displayed at the Hall of Fame.
Colorado Sports Hall of Fame: Criteria for Induction
The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving the state’s rich sports history and honoring those who have made significant contributions to athletics in Colorado.
Each year, a selection committee meets to consider nominees for induction into the Hall of Fame. The criteria for selection are as follows:
-The nominee must have made a significant contribution to athletics in Colorado.
-The nominee’s achievements must be widely recognized by the public and media.
-The nominee must be retired from their sport for at least three years (unless they are being considered for the “Lifetime Achievement” category).
-The nominee must be a citizen of the United States.
-Selection is based on an individual’s accomplishments, rather than team achievements.
Anyone can nominate someone for induction into the Hall of Fame, and self-nominations are also accepted. Nominations can be submitted online or by mail, and must include supporting materials such as biographical information, news articles, letters of recommendation, etc.
Once nominations are received, the selection committee will review all submissions and select a group of finalists to be voted on by the entire membership of the Hall of Fame (which includes past inductees). A minimum of 50% approval is required for induction. New inductees will be honored at a banquet each fall and their names will be added to the permanent display at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.

This year’s inductees include former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, former University of Colorado basketball coach Bill McCartney, and former Denver Nuggets player Alex English. The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame has announced its 2022 inductees, and the list includes some of the state’s most iconic athletes. Among the inductees are former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway, Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, and basketball player Chauncey Billups.
Elway is one of the most decorated quarterbacks in NFL history, winning two Super Bowls with the Broncos during his 16-year career. He was also named MVP of Super Bowl XXXIII and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
Vonn is one of the most successful ski racers ever, winning four World Cup titles and three Olympic medals (one gold, two bronze). She retired from racing in 2019 after a storied career that saw her overcome multiple injuries.
Billups is a five-time NBA All-Star who played for several teams during his 17-year career, including the Nuggets, Pistons, Clippers, and Knicks. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.
