About Us
The Universal Joint is a local chain of restaurants that specializes in American comfort food. The company was founded in 1998 by two college friends, John Waddle and Matt Bodenheimer, who were both born and raised in the South. The first Universal Joint location opened in the historic Lyman-Fisher House in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The restaurant quickly became a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, thanks to its delicious food and friendly atmosphere. Today, there are Universal Joint locations across the Southeast, including in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida.
No matter what time of day you visit Universal Joint, you’re sure to find something to love on the menu. For breakfast, try one of our signature dishes like chicken and waffles or shrimp and grits. Our History
The Universal Joint was founded in 1968 by Bob and Betty Lyons. The couple had a passion for good food and quality service, which they brought to life with their first restaurant in the heart of downtown Lyons.
Over the years, the Universal Joint has become a staple of the community, known for its delicious food and friendly atmosphere. In fact, we were even voted Best Restaurant in Lyons by the readers of the local paper!
Weufffdre proud to say that our commitment to excellence has earned us a spot in the Restaurant Hall of Fame. And weufffdre not slowing down anytime soon ufffd we recently opened up a new location in Denver and weufffdre always looking for ways to improve our menu and service.

Our Location
We are located in the heart of Lyons, just off Main Street. Our restaurant is in the former Universal Joint building, which has been renovated to provide a unique and comfortable dining experience. We are open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday, and offer a brunch menu on Sundays. Our happy hour specials are available Tuesday through Friday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Our Menu

Our Hours
We are open Monday through Friday from 11:00am until 10:00pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am until 10:00pm. Our kitchen is open daily from 11:00am until 9:30pm. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am until 2:30pm. Happy hour specials are available Monday through Friday from 3:00pm until 6:30pm.
