Maine has a rich sports history, and we’re proud to recognize the accomplishments of our state’s athletes with the Maine Sports Hall of Fame. This year, we’re also offering a scholarship to help support the next generation of Maine athletes.
The Maine Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1954 to honor the state’s greatest athletes, coaches, and contributors. Since then, over 200 individuals have been inducted into the hall. This year, we’re pleased to announce that five new members will be inducted: Jerry York (hockey), Billie Moore (basketball), Jim Longacre (baseball), Joan Benoit Samuelson (track & field), and Cyril Stackelberg (lacrosse).
The Maine Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship is open to any Maine high school senior who plans to pursue a career in athletics. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic achievement, athletic accomplishment, financial need, and an essay about why athletics are important.
Maine Sports Hall of Fame Inductees
