Minnesota Sports Hall Of Fame

The Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1955 to recognize the achievements of athletes and sports professionals from Minnesota. The museum’s mission is to preserve, protect, exhibit, educate about and promote the history of sport in the state.

The Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame 2022 is a museum located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was established in 1922 and has been home to many sports memorabilia such as baseballs, football helmets, basketballs, and more.

About the Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame

The Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1954 to recognize outstanding achievement in sports by Minnesotans. The Hall of Fame honors athletes, coaches, officials, contributors, and media members who have made significant contributions to sports in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame Museum is located in the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN. The museum features exhibits on the history of Minnesota sports as well as the inductees into the Hall of Fame.

The mission of the Minnesota Sports Hall of Fame is to “honor excellence, inspire greatness, and connect generations through stories of achievement in sports.”

Inductees

The Minnesota Coaches Association Hall of Fame was created in 1974 to recognize and honor outstanding coaches who have made significant contributions to high school athletics in the state of Minnesota.

The Women’s Sports Foundation’s Hall of Fame recognizes women who have made extraordinary contributions to the world of sports.

The Minnesota High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame was created in 1992 to honor those coaches who have made a significant impact on the game of football at the high school level in Minnesota.

The Star Tribune is proud to sponsor the Minnesota High School Wrestling Hall of Fame, which honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the sport of wrestling in Minnesota.

Events

The Minnesota High School Wrestling Hall of Fame will be hosting its annual induction ceremony on March 3, 2022. This year’s event will be held at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis. The public is invited to attend and help celebrate the accomplishments of these outstanding individuals.

News

The Minnesota Coaches Association will induct five new members into its Hall of Fame in 2022. The class includes three high school coaches, one college coach and one youth coach.

The high school coaches are: Bruce Remme, who coached wrestling at Apple Valley High School from 1980 to 2020; Scott Hentges, who coached girls’ basketball at Eden Prairie High School from 1997 to 2020; and Kent Knutson, who coached track and field at Roseville Area High School from 1985 to 2019.

The college coach is Pam Borton, who coached women’s basketball at the University of Minnesota from 2002 to 2014. She led the Gophers to the NCAA Tournament eight times, including a trip to the Final Four in 2004.

The youth coach is John LaValle, who coached youth football in Minneapolis for more than 40 years. He was the head coach of the Minneapolis Cowboys youth football team from 1976 to 2016.

The Minnesota High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) is seeking nominations for the 2022 Hall of Fame class. The MHSFCA Hall of Fame was established in 1974 to recognize coaches who have made significant contributions to high school football in Minnesota.

To be eligible, a coach must have coached for at least 25 years and must be retired from coaching for at least five years. Coaches can be nominated by anyone, and the selection committee will consider all nominations.

If you know a coach who meets the eligibility requirements, we encourage you to submit a nomination form. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2022.

Education

The Minnesota Coaches Association (MCA) and the Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF), in conjunction with the Minnesota High School Football Coaches Association (MHSCA), have announced the formation of a new Minnesota High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame. The MHSCFA Hall of Fame will recognize coaches who have made significant contributions to high school football in Minnesota.

The first class of inductees will be announced in early 2022, with the induction ceremony scheduled for October that year. To be eligible for induction, coaches must have coached for at least 25 years at the high school level, with at least 10 years of those years spent coaching in Minnesota. They must also be retired from coaching for at least three years.

“This is a great way to honor the many coaches who have contributed so much to high school football in our state,” said MCA Executive Director John Millea. “We are excited to partner with the WSF and MHSCA on this project.”

“We are honored to be a part of this new hall of fame,” said MHSCA President Dave Stead. “It is a fitting tribute to the men and women who have dedicated their lives to coaching high school football in Minnesota.”

The announcement of the new hall of fame coincides with National Girls & Women in Sports Day, which is celebrated annually on February 3rd.
