The Motorsports Hall of Fame induction ceremony is an annual event that honors the greatest drivers, riders, and teams in motorsports history. This year’s ceremony will be held on May 23rd at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan. The event will start with a red carpet reception followed by a dinner and awards program.
Motorsports Hall of Fame Ken Miles
Ken Miles was an English-born American racing driver who won many races both in the United States and Europe. He is best known for his victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 and 1967, as well as his work with Carroll Shelby on the development of the Ford GT40. In 2020, he was posthumously inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.

Motorsports Hall of Fame of America 2023
The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America 2023 will feature the induction ceremony for the Class of 2023. The event will be held at the Novi, Michigan facility on May 12, 2023.
This year’s class includes some of the biggest names in motorsports history, including Ken Miles. Miles was a British racing driver who competed in various forms of motorsport, including Formula One and endurance racing. He is best known for his victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966, which saw him become the first (and only) person to win the race outright in a car with an average speed below 100 mph.
Miles’ co-driver that day was none other than Bruce McLaren, himself a legend of motorsports. McLaren was a New Zealand-born racing driver and entrepreneur. He founded the McLaren Racing team in 1963 and went on to win multiple championships in a variety of different series. His most famous victory came at the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix, where he became the first (and only) driver from New Zealand to win a Formula One race.
Also being inducted this year is Bob Bondurant. Bondurant is an American former racing driver who competed in Formula One, IndyCar, and sports car racing. He is perhaps best known for his victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Daytona 24 Hours races, as well as his dominant run during the 1964 USAC Championship Car season where he won 8 out of 10 races.
Rounding out this year’s class is Tex Hopkins, another American racing driver who competed primarily in sports cars during his career. Hopkins was notable for his involvement with many different manufacturers and teams over the years, including Ferrari, Porsche, Shelby American, and Corvette Racing. He racked up numerous victories throughout his career but is perhaps best remembered for winning two consecutive editions of the grueling 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race in 1966 and 1967 driving a Ford GT40 Mk II entered by Holman & Moody Racing Team

The Motorsports Hall of Fame Novi Michigan is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1989. The mission of the Motorsports Hall of Fame is to honor and preserve the history of motorsports. The Motorsports Hall of Fame has inducted over 200 individuals from all forms of motorsports including auto racing, drag racing, motorcycle racing, open-wheel racing, and more.
The Motorsports Hall of Fame induction ceremony is held every year to honor the accomplishments of those who have been inducted into the hall. This year’s induction ceremony will be held on August 29th, 2020 at the Novi Civic Center in Novi, Michigan. Ken Miles will be one of the honorees this year. Ken Miles was a British race car driver who competed in Formula One, sports cars, and endurance races. He won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966 and 1967. Ken Miles passed away in 1968 at the age of 36 after a crash during a testing session for Ford’s new GT40 race car.
The 2022 induction ceremony will be held on May 20th, 2022 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, Indiana. The 2023 induction ceremony will be held on June 17th, 2023 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.

This year’s honorees represent a wide range of motorsports disciplines, including drag racing, stock car racing, open-wheel racing, off-road racing, and more. They are:
-Ken Miles: A British-born racer who competed in both Formula One and NASCAR, Ken Miles is best remembered for his tragic death during the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. He was posthumously inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2001.
-Darrell Gwynn: A successful NHRA drag racer, Darrell Gwynn won 10 championships and 29 races over the course of his career. He was severely injured in an accident in 1990 that ended his driving career, but he has since dedicated himself to helping others through the Darrell Gwynn Foundation.
-Rick Mears: A four-time Indianapolis 500 winner, Rick Mears is one of the most successful drivers in IndyCar history. He retired from racing in 1992 but remains involved with Team Penske as a consultant.
-Danny Sullivan: A former IndyCar and Formula One driver, Danny Sullivan is best known for winning the 1985 Indianapolis 500. He went on to have a successful broadcasting career after retiring from racing.

The Motorsports Hall of Fame Selection Process is a rigorous and thorough process that is designed to identify the most deserving candidates for induction into the Motorsports Hall of Fame.
The first step in the process is the nomination phase, during which anyone can nominate their candidate of choice for consideration by the Selection Committee. Once the nominations have been collected, the Selection Committee will review all of the nominees and select a group of finalists to be considered for induction.
After reviewing the finalists, the Selection Committee will vote on inductees and announce their decision at an induction ceremony. The newly inducted members of the Motorsports Hall of Fame will then be honored with a place in the Motorsports Hall of Fame Museum.
The entire process is overseen by an independent Board of Directors to ensure that it is fair and objective.
