This year’s class also includes several high school coaches who have had an incredible impact on those they’ve coached. Bill Battle, Roy Williams, and Jerry McGee are just a few of the many mentors who will be honored this year for their dedication to developing young athletes.

North Carolina Basketball Hall of Fame

The North Carolina Basketball Hall of Fame will be welcoming eight new members in 2022. The class, which was announced recently, includes some of the biggest names in the state’s basketball history.

Headlining the group is former University of North Carolina star Jerry Stackhouse. A two-time NBA All-Star, Stackhouse played 18 seasons in the league and is currently an assistant coach with the Brooklyn Nets. He joins fellow Tar Heel legends Bob McAdoo and Charlie Scott as inductees to the Hall of Fame.

Also being inducted are high school coaches Bill Foster and Mack McLaurin, UNC women’s basketball star Tracy Reid, South Carolina men’s basketball legend Alex English, and former Charlotte Hornets player Dell Curry.

South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame

The South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame is proud to announce its class of 2022 inductees: North Carolina basketball legend Michael Jordan, NFL greats Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders, and MLB All-Star Alex Rodriguez.

This year’s class will be formally inducted at the annual induction ceremony on May 20, 2022 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. Tickets for the event will go on sale to the public on March 1, 2022.

Michael Jordan needs no introduction. He is widely considered the greatest basketball player of all time and is a global icon. During his illustrious career with the Chicago Bulls, he won six NBA championships and was named NBA Finals MVP five times. He was also a 14-time All-Star and 10-time scoring champion. After his playing days were over, Jordan became majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats (now the Hornets) and helped bring the NBA All-Star Game to Charlotte in 2017. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009 and his jersey numbers (23 & 45) have been retired by both the Bulls and Hornets.

Jerry Rice is widely regarded as the greatest wide receiver in NFL history. During his 20-year career with the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, and Seattle Seahawks, he caught 1,256 passes for 22,895 yards and 197 touchdowns ufffd all league records at the time of his retirement. He was named to 13 Pro Bowls and was a first-team All-Pro 11 times. Rice was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010.

Deion Sanders is one of only two men ever to play in both a Super Bowl and a World Series (the other being Bo Jackson). A superb athlete, “Prime Time” excelled at both football and baseball during his spectacular career. As a cornerback in football, he was selected to eight Pro Bowls while also winning two Super Bowl titles with the San Francisco 49ers (1994) and Dallas Cowboys (1995). In baseball, he played for four different teams over nine seasons ufffd including stints with both The Yankees & Atlanta Braves ufffd before retiring in 2001 after hitting .263 with 24 home runs over his career.<\p>
