Oregon Sports Hall of Fame Inductees
The Oregon Sports Hall of Fame announced their inductees for the Class of 2019 and it includes some of the biggest names in Oregon sports history. Among the inductees are former Portland Trail Blazers star Clyde Drexler, Olympic track gold medalist Steve Prefontaine, and University of Oregon football legend Joey Harrington.
Drexler is a Basketball Hall of Famer and one of the greatest players in Blazers history. He was a 10-time All-Star during his 15-year NBA career and helped lead Portland to the NBA Finals in 1990. Prefontaine is one of the most iconic figures in Oregon sports history. He was a world-record holder in the 5000 meters and won a bronze medal at the 1972 Olympics. Harrington was a Heisman Trophy finalist and led the Ducks to their first ever Rose Bowl appearance during his senior season in 2001.
The other inductees include: golfer Peter Jacobsen, former major league pitcher Tony Suckow, college basketball coach Ralph Miller, high school basketball coach Stan Johnson, softball player Dot Richardson, track & field athlete Phil Knight, sports journalist Kerry Eggers, sportscaster Mike Jorgensen, and philanthropist Joan Danskin.
Oregon Football Hall of Famers
The Oregon Football Hall of Fame was created in 2010 to honor the best players, coaches and contributors in the history of Oregon football. The inaugural class included 10 players and two coaches, and the most recent class added five more players.
Among the hall’s inductees are some of the greatest names in Oregon football history, including Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota, Rose Bowl MVP Joey Harrington, Pro Football Hall of Famer Dave Wilcox and Super Bowl champion Mel Renfro.

1. Kevin Love: A native of Lake Oswego, Love was a McDonaldufffds All-American in 2007 and went on to have a stellar career at UCLA. He was drafted fifth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2008 and traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he has become one of the best power forwards in the NBA. He was named an All-Star in 2010 and 2012, and he won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2012.
2. Terrence Jones: Another Portland native, Jones starred at Jefferson High School before going on to play for Kentucky. He was drafted 18th overall by the Houston Rockets in 2012 and has been a key player for them over the past few seasons. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2013 and helped lead the Rockets to the Western Conference Finals in 2015.
3. Luke Ridnour: A product of Blaine High School in Washington, Ridnour played his college ball at Oregon before being drafted 14th overall by Seattle SuperSonics in 2003. He spent 10 seasons in the NBA with several different teams, including stints with the Milwaukee Bucks and Charlotte Bobcats. He retired from professional basketball after playing overseas during the 2013-14 season.

-In 1948, Mel Renfro became the first African American player to be drafted by an NFL team when he was selected by the Dallas Cowboys. He went on to have a stellar career with the Cowboys, being named to 10 Pro Bowls and earning induction into both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Cowboy’s Ring of Honor.
-In 1960, Bill Bowerman co-founded Nike out of his garage in Beaverton. Bowerman was a legendary track coach at the University of Oregon, where he coached numerous Olympians including Steve Prefontaine. Nike has since become one of the most successful brands in all of sports.
-In 1970 and 1971, Lew Alcindor (now known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) led UCLA to back-to-back NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships. In those two championship games, he set tournament records for points scored (71) and field goals made (28). He would go on to have one of the greatest NBA careers ever, winning six championships with the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers.
-In 1984, Mary Decker Slaney set a world record in the 3000 meter race at a meet in Zufffdrich with a time of 8:25:17. She held that record for nearly 17 years before it was finally broken by another American runner, Paula Radcliffe.
-The 1992 USA Men’s Olympic Basketball “Dream Team” is widely considered to be one of if not THE greatest collection of basketball talent ever assembled on one team. The team featured future Hall of Famers such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen etc., and cruised through their competition en route to a gold medal at the Barcelona Olympics.
