The Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019. This institution has been a part of the Peninsula community since 1968, and is the only hall of fame in the area. The hall has inducted over 400 athletes, coaches, teams, and contributors to sports in the region.

The Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame is the perfect place to pay tribute to some of the best athletes and coaches in the history of NMU sports. This year’s class of inductees includes Sarah Stream, a world-renowned mountain biker who has won countless awards, and Redwood City Black History Museum founder Dr. Lillian Wright, who was one of the first African American women to earn a doctorate from an accredited university. The hall of fame also showcases exhibits about NMU sports icons like Coach Don Griggs, who led the Broncos to two Division II national championships; and John Dye, a three-time All-American wrestler at NMU and member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic wrestling team.
NMU Sports Hall of Fame
The NMU Sports Hall of Fame is a prestigious honor that recognizes the outstanding achievements of former athletes, coaches and administrators associated with Northern Michigan University. The Hall of Fame was established in 1987 and since then, over 100 individuals have been inducted.
This year, the Hall of Fame will be welcoming its newest class of inductees on October 10th. Among the six new members is Sarah Stream, a former standout soccer player for NMU who went on to have a successful professional career. Also being honored is the late Herman “Red” Bauer, a legendary coach who led theNMU football team to victory in the 1953 Mineral Water Bowl.

UP Sports Hall of Fame
The Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization that was founded in Marquette, Michigan in 1966. The purpose of the UP Sports Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor the achievements of athletes, coaches and contributors who have made significant contributions to sports in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Since its inception, the UP Sports Hall of Fame has inducted over 400 individuals into its ranks. This year’s class includes Sarah Stream, a world-renowned freestyle skier, and Redwood City Black History Museum founder Ron Scott.
Sarah Stream:
Sarah Stream is a three-time Olympian and six-time X Games medalist who has been called “the most decorated female skier in United States history.” She first burst onto the scene as a 15-year-old when she won the gold medal in moguls at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Since then, she has gone on to win five more World Championship titles and two Overall World Cup titles. In 2014, she was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.
Redwood City Black History Museum:
Founded by Ron Scott in 2004, the Redwood City Black History Museum is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the African American experience in California’s Silicon Valley region. The museum houses an extensive collection of artifacts, documents and photographs that tell the story of black pioneers who helped build Silicon Valley into the global economic powerhouse it is today.
UP Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2014
The University of Michigan’s sports hall of fame class of 2014 was just announced and it includes some truly amazing athletes. Sarah Stream, a four-time Olympian and three-time world champion in women’s rowing, is one of the inductees. Also being inducted is Redwood City Black History Museum founder Ron Jones, who was an All-American football player at San Francisco State University.

Sarah Stream
Sarah Stream is one of the most accomplished athletes in Northern Michigan University history. She was a four-time All-American in cross country and track, and still holds the school record in the 10,000 meters. After graduation, she went on to compete in the Olympic Trials and now coaches at her alma mater. In 2014, she was inducted into the NMU Sports Hall of Fame.

Redwood City Black History Museum
The Redwood City Black History Museum is a museum dedicated to preserving and promoting the history and culture of black people in the United States. The museum was founded in 2014 by Sarah Stream, a former professional basketball player who grew up in Redwood City, California. The museum is located in the city’s historic downtown district.
The museum’s mission is to “provide an educational resource for the community that celebrates the achievements and contributions of black Americans.” The museum features exhibits on topics such as the Underground Railroad, civil rights, and famous black athletes. There is also a library with books, films, and other materials about black history and culture.
The Redwood City Black History Museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Admission is free for children under 18 years old, and $5 for adults.
