Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame: Introduction
The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame will be welcoming eight new members in 2022, with the induction ceremony set to take place on May 20th at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. This year’s class is headlined by former University of Tennessee football greats Peyton Manning and Reggie White, both of whom are sure to be first-ballot Hall of Famers. Also being inducted are former Vanderbilt University basketball star Perry Wallace, longtime Nashville Predators broadcaster Pete Weber, and legendary high school football coach Robert Hughes.
This year’s class continues a trend of excellence for the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, which has now inducted a total of 160 individuals and five teams since its inception in 1961. With such a illustrious group already in the fold, it’s safe to say that these eight new members will be in good company when they take their rightful place among the state’s all-time greats.
So without further ado, let’s meet the newest members of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame!
Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame: History
The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame was founded in 1966 to honor the state’s greatest athletes, coaches and contributors. The first induction ceremony was held in 1967 and since then, over 400 individuals have been enshrined.
The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame is located in Nashville, TN and features several exhibits on the state’s rich sports history. The museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 10am-4pm. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, and children under 5 are free.
The annual induction ceremony is held each spring to honor the newest class of inductees. The event includes a banquet, awards presentation and speeches from the honorees. Tickets to the induction ceremony are available to the public and start at $75 per person.
Past inductees include legendary University of Tennessee football coach Robert Neyland, Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne, former Vanderbilt University basketball coach Roy Skinner, Olympic gold medalist Wilma Rudolph and many more.

The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting several new members in 2022. These individuals have made significant contributions to the world of sports and have helped put Tennessee on the map as a major player in the sporting world. Some of the inductees for 2022 include:
ufffd Charles ufffdChuckufffd Cooper: The first African American player drafted in the NBA, Cooper played for 14 seasons with four different teams. He was a three-time All-Star and was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.
ufffd Reggie White: One of the most dominant defensive players in NFL history, White played for 15 seasons with eight different teams. He was a 13-time Pro Bowl selection and was named to the NFLufffds 75th Anniversary All-Time Team.
ufffd Tamika Catchings: One of the best players in womenufffds basketball history, Catchings played for 16 seasons with the Indiana Fever of the WNBA. She is a five-time WNBA champion, 10-time WNBA All-Star, and was named one of the 20 Greatest Players in league history.
These are just some of the incredible athletes who will be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. This group represents a wide range of sports and accomplishments, but all have made tremendous contributions to their respective fields. The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame will be hosting its annual banquet soon, and this year’s inductees are sure to make it a night to remember. Among the athletes being honored are former Tennessee basketball star Allan Houston, NFL great Steve McNair, and track and field legend Wilma Rudolph. These three legends have all left their mark on the state of Tennessee, and their induction into the Hall of Fame is a well-deserved recognition of their accomplishments.

Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame: Education
The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame is excited to announce their 2022 inductees! Among the list of impressive athletes is former University of Tennessee basketball star, Robert J. “Bobby” Maze. His accomplishments on and off the court make him a deserving inductee into the hall.
Maze was born in Nashville and raised in Clarksville, TN. He attended Austin Peay State University where he excelled at basketball. After his collegiate career, Maze played professionally overseas for several years before returning to the United States to play in the NBA Development League (now G-League). He also had a brief stint with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Off the court, Maze has been active in giving back to his community. He founded The Bobby Maze Foundation, which provides support and resources to youth in underserved communities. In addition to his work with his foundation, Maze has also coached AAU basketball and served as a mentor for young people.
The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame is proud to honor Bobby Maze for his outstanding achievements as an athlete and as a leader in our community. We look forward to welcoming him into the hall at our induction banquet in October 2022!

The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame is committed to reaching out to the community and sharing the stories of our state’s rich sports history. We offer a variety of outreach programs, including our popular speaker series, educational workshops, and exhibit tours.
Our speaker series features some of the most prominent figures in Tennessee sports history, who share their personal stories and insights on a wide range of topics. These programs are open to the public and are often held at local libraries or community centers.
Our educational workshops are designed for groups of all ages and focus on specific aspects of Tennessee sports history. These hands-on learning experiences are led by our knowledgeable staff and include interactive games, activities, and discussions. Workshop topics include: Women in Sports, African American athletes in Tennessee History, The Evolution of Football in Tennessee, Baseball in Nashville: Past & Present, Soccer in Middle Tennessee: A Growing Tradition, and many more!

-Peyton Manning: One of the most decorated quarterbacks in NFL history, Manning played for the Tennessee Titans for 14 seasons. He was a five-time MVP and led the team to two Super Bowl appearances.
-Pat Summitt: One of the most successful college basketball coaches of all time, Summitt led the University of Tennessee Lady Vols to eight national championships. She was also named Coach of the Year six times and is a member of both the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
-Reggie White: A defensive end who played for both the University of Tennessee and then professionally for the Green Bay Packers, White is considered one of the best defensive players in NFL history. He was named Defensive Player of the Year three times and was a part of two Super Bowl winning teams.
These are just a few of the incredible athletes who will be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame next year. They represent some of the best that our state has to offer and we are proud to call them Tennesseans!
